RM Yachts unveils the RM 980, a new 32-foot cruiser inspired by ocean racing

Discreetly prepared by RM Yachts, the RM 980 will be presented at the Paris Nautic Show in November 2025. For the moment, only a few images are circulating, suggesting a compact 32-foot cruiser. Enough to sketch the first lines of a model that revives the shipyard's historic philosophy.

Not much is known yet about the future RM980 cruising yacht. Prepared in secret, it will be unveiled at the Paris Nautic Show in November 2025. Only a few images have been leaked, allowing us to draw a first portrait of this cruiser, estimated to be accessible due to its size. Indeed, with the RM 980, RM Yachts returns to the segment of reasonably-sized sailing yachts, a terrain the company has claimed since the first RM 900 launched nearly forty years ago. The new 32-foot model follows in this footsteps, while incorporating architectural choices borrowed from ocean racing.

A 32-foot cruiser designed for long-distance cruising

According to the shipyard's message, the RM 980 has been designed for both coastal and transatlantic sailing. The hull and interior volumes are the result of a synthesis between in-house expertise and developments by the Marc Lombard Design Group. The deck layout, advertised as simple and efficient, incorporates the ergonomics of previous models, while drawing on tried-and-tested arrangements found on ocean-racing yachts.

A design inherited from the RM philosophy

RM Yachts insists on maintaining a range of compact yachts, contrary to current trends in unit growth. The shipyard refers to a " a very long line of reasonably sized sailboats" continued with this 32-footer, presented as a condensation of ideas taken directly from the Class40. The stated aim is to offer a lightweight, responsive boat, suitable for both long-distance cruising programs and regular short-handed sailing.

Although the shipyard has yet to reveal any technical specifications, this first announcement marks the RM 980 as an additional link in the range, faithful to the DNA of the epoxy plywood sailboats produced at Périgny. More details on the model are expected in the coming months, before an official presentation awaited by enthusiasts of the brand.
