Opening of an APER center in Saint-Martin: a strategic tool for end-of-life boats

The network of treatment units for end-of-life boats (BHU) continues its territorial coverage. VERDE SXM, based in Saint-Martin, has become the 36? center approved by APER (Association pour la Plaisance Eco-Responsable), marking the first time it has been established in the French Overseas Collectivities (COM).

A dynamic expansion in the French overseas territories

The opening of this center on Saint-Martin is part of an overall strategy to increase the density of the ELV processing network, in response to the major logistical and environmental challenges facing island regions. These territories, often far from mainland France's recycling circuits, require local facilities for the dismantling, sorting and recovery of end-of-life pleasure boats.

An operational system connected to the national system

The VERDE SXM center is now fully integrated into the APER information system. This means that yachtsmen based on Saint-Martin or neighboring islands can submit their request for disposal online. This connection guarantees full traceability of dismantling operations, in line with the requirements of the eco-organization's specifications.

A local partnership for a global environmental challenge

Headed by Maxime Arnal, the VERDE SXM team provides a concrete response to the growing problem of abandoned or degraded boats in overseas coastal areas. By facilitating the removal and treatment of these boats, this opening contributes to reducing the environmental impact of marine pollution and the congestion of port areas and unauthorized anchorages.

APER: a steadily growing network

Created within the framework of extended producer responsibility (EPR), APER plays a structuring role in the nautical sector. The accreditation of centers such as VERDE SXM reflects the company's determination to extend its geographical coverage to the whole of France, including the French overseas departments and collectivities. By April 2025, the network already counted 35 centers across France. With this 36? opening, a new milestone has been reached.

The inclusion of Saint-Martin in the national network of approved treatment centers confirms the dynamism of the nautical dismantling sector, supported by APER. In the medium term, it will enable us to better manage the flow of end-of-life boats in the French overseas departments and territories, while reinforcing the circular economy and environmental responsibility of the nautical sector. A step forward that could inspire other similar facilities in the West Indies and beyond.
