An exceptional nautical heritage

Launched in 1899 by the Camper & Nicholsons shipyard, the Black Swan formerly Brynhild is a 40.20-meter ketch. Considered one of the finest classic yachts in operation, she has endured over a century of sailing and transformations, retaining her exceptional aura.

Origins resolutely focused on competition

Designed by naval architect Charles Ernest Nicholson from the outset, the Brynhild was intended for racing. Commissioned by Major Selwin Calverley, she took part in the 1900 Le Havre Olympic Games, finishing second in the 20-ton category. Later, under the ownership of Sir James Pender, she won the King's Cup in 1902 against Météor III, a triumph hailed by King Edward VII.

Under different names and successive owners, this yacht distinguished itself in Big Boat class regattas throughout the early 20th century, before becoming Black Swan in 1928 .

An eventful history

In the 1930s, legend has it that the Black Swan attracted the interest of Benito Mussolini, saving her from dismantling to recover her lead ballast during the Second World War.

Remained in Italy after the war, she passed from hand to hand until undergoing a complete restoration between 1999 and 2002 by Studio Faggioni Yacht Design. The renovation restored the yacht to her former elegance and made her ready to sail again. After a period of neglect, she was finally bought by a French shipowner, who refurbished her so that she could take part in the Voiles de Saint-Tropez in 2019.

A restored and functional vessel
Now under French flag and based in Sète, Black Swan 1899 boasts a ketch configuration and a spacious teak deck. The interior is refined and authentic, combining noble woods and leather for a warm, timeless ambience.

This classic sailing yacht is now available as a charter yacht for a wealthy clientele. With a capacity of eight guests and a crew of six, it offers optimized living spaces: a large saloon, a dining table, and several double cabins with private bathrooms. The owner's cabin, occupying the full beam of the ship, offers a prestigious setting.

A yacht designed for Mediterranean cruising

With a cruising speed of 6 knots and up to 10 knots under sail, the Black Swan is now cruising the western Mediterranean. Available for charter, she sails along the Spanish, French and Italian coasts, including the Balearic Islands, Corsica and Sardinia.

A symbol of timeless nautical elegance, the Black Swan 1899 continues to write its history on the water, ready to inspire enthusiasts of classic yachting and exceptional sailing.
