Seacork Deck PLUS, between nautical comfort and material durability

New for 2025, Seacork Deck PLUS offers an alternative to traditional deck coverings thanks to a fine-grain cork that imitates the appearance of wood while retaining cork's natural properties. With its anti-slip, insulating and aesthetic qualities, this material is aimed at yachtsmen looking for a compromise between comfort and durability.

An alternative to wood for boat decks

In recent years, more and more yachtsmen have been looking for alternatives to teak or other exotic woods for deck coverings. Between the scarcity of natural resources, high costs and complexity of maintenance, wood is less attractive than it used to be. Seacork Deck PLUS is in line with this trend, offering a fine-grain cork that visually reproduces wood slats, while benefiting from the technical characteristics of cork

The choice of cork for deck covering is not an insignificant one. A natural, light and resistant material, it offers anti-slip and insulating properties, particularly sought-after on board boats, especially in sailing areas where safety and thermal comfort are paramount. What's more, unlike teak, it doesn't heat up in the sun or burn bare feet.

Differences between Seacork Deck Original and Seacork Deck PLUS

The Seacork Deck PLUS, new for 2025, differs from the Original model in a number of technical and aesthetic aspects that meet specific needs. Firstly, the composition of the cork granules is different: the Original model uses "coarser" granules, from 2 to 4 millimeters, while Deck PLUS adopts a finer grain size, from 0.5 to 1 millimeter. This finer grain allows Deck PLUS to come closer to the visual imitation of a wooden deck with teak slats.

The nature of the binder also varies: Deck Original uses a thermoplastic resin, while Deck PLUS employs a thermosetting resin, which gives the material greater dimensional stability and resistance to temperature variations. In terms of density, Deck PLUS is slightly heavier, with a density of 420 kg/m³ versus 400 kg/m³ for the Original model, reflecting a denser, more robust structure.

In practical terms, the weight per square meter remains similar between the two models (around 1.7 to 3.4 kg/m² depending on thickness), but Deck PLUS offers better visual reproduction thanks to its smooth grain, which is particularly suited to high-end boats or design-conscious yachtsmen. On the other hand, non-slip, rot-proof properties and thermal performance (thermal conductivity of 0.05 to 0.06 W/m.K) remain identical between the two versions.

With a price difference that reflects the innovations of the PLUS model: a blank 2000 x 500 mm sheet in 6 mm thickness costs 264.25 ? HT for the Deck PLUS, compared with 198.86 ? HT for the Deck Original.

Available in a range of formats and thicknesses (from 3 to 12 millimeters), the material is equally suited to the decks of sailboats and motor yachts.

Implementation and maintenance: additional arguments

One of the strengths of Seacork Deck PLUS is its ease of installation. Supplied in sheets or strips, the deck covering can be cut to size and installed directly on the deck using a suitable adhesive. Its lightness and flexibility also facilitate repairs in the event of localized damage.

When it comes to maintenance, cork doesn't require any special treatments like wood. Regular cleaning with soapy water is enough to preserve its original appearance. This ease of maintenance is attractive to yachtsmen looking to reduce the maintenance of their boats.
