Preventing violence in sport: Mathilde de Kerangat creates an awareness-raising game

Mathilde de Kerangat, sailor and educator, has developed a board game in the form of a regatta. The project, born of personal experience and an observation of the sporting world, aims to raise awareness among young sailors of respectful behavior and the prevention of violence, particularly sexual violence.

A project born of personal experience and public commitment

Mathilde de Kerangat, known for her commitment to the world of sailing, spoke out publicly in 2023 to testify to the sexual abuse she suffered when she was just 10 years old. As well as sailing, the young athlete attended an athletics school in the late 90s and early 2000s. She is now accusing the athletics coach of sexual assault.

This courageous approach, aimed at breaking the silence, led her to explore tools for raising awareness of these sensitive issues among young people and their supervisors.

That's how she came up with the idea for a game she calls "A l'écoute". The aim of the game is to initiate a constructive and educational dialogue on appropriate behavior in the sporting environment.

A fun tool for learning to sail better together

In the form of a game of law simulating a regatta, "A l'écoute" integrates stages linked to life in a light sailing regatta: situations on land and on the water, maneuvers, managing group life. Each stage provides an opportunity to discuss themes such as solidarity, respect and the prevention of inappropriate behavior.

The game is designed to be accessible to young sportsmen and women, and aims to reinforce conviviality while emphasizing key values: "living together", self-control and mutual respect.

A project supported by the French Sailing Federation

As part of her DEJEPS training, Mathilde received support from coaches and sports organizations, notably the Fédération Française de Voile (FFV), which has been working for several years to prevent violence in sport. This project is part of a wider action plan, combining management training and educational tools.

An example for other sporting disciplines

Although specifically designed for the sailing world, " Listening "It could inspire other sporting disciplines to create similar initiatives. Adapting these tools to other sporting environments would help to raise awareness and reinforce preventive actions.
