Yannick Bestaven to wear Décathlon for Vendée Globe 2024

Décathlon announces the launch of its new Offshore PRO Series collection. Designed with Yannick Bestaven, this range is intended for ocean racing. It will be available from October 7, 2024.

On September 24, 2024, Decathlon launched the Offshore PRO Series, a new range of technical clothing for ocean racing. The collection was developed in collaboration with Yannick Bestaven, winner of the 2020 Vendée Globe, and tested in several races.

Waterproofing and reinforced protection

The Offshore PRO Series stands out for its high level of waterproofing. The garments are equipped with a 3-layer membrane that withstands 30,000 mm Schmerber, the benchmark for waterproofness. The absence of zippers, combined with neoprene collars and sleeves, ensures maximum protection against water. All seams are waterproof, further enhancing resistance to water ingress. These technical features meet the demands of offshore racing, where sailors face severe weather conditions.

Durability of materials used

The range incorporates reinforced materials to ensure enhanced durability, particularly in areas subject to high stress such as the knees and buttocks. The choice of Hypalon, a material renowned for its robustness, enables it to withstand the abrasive surfaces of boat decks. Tests have been carried out over 43,000 nautical miles and on several types of yacht (IMOCA, Ocean50, Class40, Figaro, Mini 6.50), validating the garments' resistance in different conditions.

Freedom of movement

Offshore PRO Series garments are designed for freedom of movement. The jacket, for example, is lightweight and suitable for fast maneuvers, yet totally waterproof. The design has been optimized to enable skippers to move around easily on board, without compromising protection from the elements.

Collaboration with Yannick Bestaven and the design center

The development of this range took three years and involved a dedicated team based at the Tribord Sailing Lab in La Rochelle. This design center enabled us to work closely with Yannick Bestaven, who tested the prototypes during competitions such as the Transat Jacques Vabre and the Route du Rhum. More than 10 prototypes were developed before arriving at the final version.
