Night lenses, revolutionary equipment for sailing and water sports

Eyeglass and contact lens wearers face the same problem when it comes to water sports. Once wet, glasses and contact lenses lose their effectiveness, and the risk of loss is quite high. Thanks to this new equipment, there's no need to wear optical equipment all day long!

Orthokeratology, an ancestral practice

Orthokeratology has its origins in a traditional Chinese method whereby short-sighted people placed small sandbags on their eyelids at night to improve their daytime vision. This practice evolved into modern orthokeratology, enabling vision to be corrected during sleep without the need for daytime vision aids, whatever the individual's visual problem.

In recent years, orthokeratology has made significant advances, notably with the introduction of night lenses such as DRL, featuring innovative designs and materials. It is also recognized as an effective solution for slowing the progression of myopia in children, teenagers and adults. Freed from the constraints of glasses or contact lenses during the day, users benefit from optimal vision quality in their daily activities, as if they had no visual impairment at all.

An ideal concept for going out on the water

This type of lens is very popular, especially with water sports enthusiasts, as confirmed by Marielle Gaumond, a lens fitting specialist near Marseille:

" This product, the result of many years of research and development, has just been approved by the French health authority (Haute Autorité de Santé). In addition to recognition of its qualities, this also means that it can be reimbursed by certain mutual insurance companies. It can be adapted to several visual defects: myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia. The lens has a lifespan of 12 months".

How does it work?

Just before going to sleep, insert your lenses. To maintain the same quality of vision every day, orthokeratology lenses must be worn every night.

After going to bed, we recommend that you sleep with your orthokeratology lenses in for at least 6 hours to ensure that the treatment is effective. The remodeling process takes place gently and progressively throughout the night, the minimum amount of sleep required.

When you wake up in the morning, you'll enjoy naturally clear vision for between 4 and 6 p.m., after which your vision will gradually start to deteriorate.

Equipment adopted by Pôle France athletes

The lenses have also been successfully tested by sailors from the Marseille training center. Romain Ghio, windfoiler, as well as Clara Stamminger and Manon Peyre, who sail in 49er FX :

"Sailing and especially the sea don't mix well with contact lenses, let alone corrective glasses. We're drenched from head to toe, always marking our competitors, fine-tuning our sails, fine-tuning our course and, above all, perfectly identifying our buoys. Night lenses free us from this kind of stress and give us precise vision"
