Mercury Marine unveils FourStroke EFI 8 and 9.9 hp and ProKicker EFI 9.9 hp engines

Mercury Marine has announced its new FourStroke EFI 8 and 9.9 hp and ProKicker EFI 9.9 hp outboards, featuring advanced electronic fuel injection technology, promising efficient performance and simplified starting for boaters and fishermen.

On June 6, 2024, Mercury Marine, a division of Brunswick Corporation, launched its new FourStroke EFI 8 and 9.9 hp outboard engines, as well as the ProKicker EFI 9.9 hp. These innovative engines, featuring electronic fuel injection, are designed to offer easy starting and increased efficiency, ideal for fishing enthusiasts and recreational boaters.

After (very) high power, Mercury Marine is developing its small power range, with the presentation of the FourStroke EFI 8 and 9.9 hp and ProKicker EFI 9.9 hp outboards. This new generation of engines promises fuel savings and ease of maintenance for small craft.

27% reduction in fuel consumption

The American manufacturer has announced that, thanks to EFI technology, the FourStroke EFI 8 and 9.9 hp engines consume up to 27% less fuel than older carburettor models. A good point for the user. What's more, these engines offer superior power at high revs, while being lighter than their predecessors. Their light weight - still only 40 kg - makes them easy to handle, ideal for small boats and inflatable tenders.

Simplified maintenance

FourStroke EFI 8 and 9.9 hp engines are designed for ease of maintenance. The absence of an oil filter and the maintenance-free camshaft reduce the need for servicing over the life of the engine. What's more, a fresh-water flushing system makes cleaning quick and easy, by connecting directly to an ordinary garden hose.

Startup and control options

The 8 and 9.9 hp models are available with manual or electric start options. The manual-start versions do not require a battery, offering greater convenience. " When you pull the cord to start the engine manually, it automatically charges the entire electrical system to enable ignition "explains Jim Hergert, senior category manager at Mercury Marine. The 9.9 hp model offers remote or tiller control, with manual or electric trim options, while the 8 hp model is tiller-only.

ProKicker EFI 9.9 hp for professional anglers

The ProKicker EFI 9.9 hp motor is distinguished by features specially designed for fishing. In particular, it will be used as a secondary motor, a practice often employed in the United States. Its high-thrust four-blade propeller is ideal for low-speed trolling. This model is also equipped with the Command Thrust baseplate for enhanced durability and a hydraulic vertical lift system as standard. " Simply press the button, and the motor lifts effortlessly when you're ready to switch to your main engine "says Jim Hergert.

In Europe, these engines will be available in summer 2024. Prices have not yet been set, although we can expect a slight increase over the carburetor versions.
