Registration for the Global Solo Challenge (GSC) 2027-2028 is now open. This non-stop, single-handed round-the-world race is already attracting many sailors. Vigo, Spain, will be the starting and finishing port for this edition.

New departure and arrival port: Vigo, Spain

The city of Vigo, located on Spain's Atlantic coast, will host the second edition of the Global Solo Challenge. Known for its rich maritime heritage and spectacular coastal views, Vigo offers an ideal setting for a race of this scale. The city's strategic location and protected waters will ensure high media visibility and active public participation. The Real Club Náutico de Vigo, with its comprehensive facilities, will be the heart of the event, guaranteeing logistics and hospitality for all competitors.

A diversity of profiles and sailboats

Since the announcement of the opening of registration, the GSC 2027-2028 has already attracted a great deal of interest, with over 80 inquiries. The organizers are delighted to announce the first five confirmed participants, each bringing a unique story and rich experience. They range from a Taling 32 to a former IMOCA Open 60, as well as an amateur-built 11-meter ocean cruiser and a racing Open 40. Chris Stanmore-Major and Peter Bourke, who were unable to take the start in 2023, are returning with determination to take part in this new edition.

Realizing the dream of sailing around the world

The Global Solo Challenge features a unique format, making the challenge accessible and inclusive for amateur sailors. The next start of this round-the-world sailing race, scheduled between August and December 2027, features a unique format. The boats, grouped according to their performance characteristics, set off in successive starts. This new format eliminates compensated time calculations. All boats take part in the same event, transforming the race into a true pursuit. The fastest boats try to catch up with the smallest and slowest. The first to arrive is the winner!

All boats over 32 feet are admitted, from classic long-keel boats to more modern cruisers, from One-offs and Opens to racing boats such as Class40s, Open 50s and Open 60s.
