Celebrating the sea adventurers who protect the oceans
The 8th edition of the Festival des aventuriers de la mer will take place from October 11 to 15, 2023 at Lorient La Base and Cité de la Voile. The theme is to honor the maritime adventurers of the 21st century. For this year's event, the aim is to showcase the men and women who are seeking solutions and innovating in the face of climate and social challenges. The main theme will be : "maritime imaginaries, how to invent and share a mobilizing narrative in the service of ocean protection?"
An opening event entitled "Nos rêves engloutis : les imaginaires sous-marins" will take place at the Théâtre de Lorient on October 11. The inauguration on October 12 will feature Eric Brossier, navigator and scientist, David Wahl, writer and Louise Ras, director of the Sailing Hirondelle association.
Friday October 13 will be dedicated to the Maritime Initiatives Forum, culminating in a prize-giving ceremony.
Numerous events scheduled from October 11 to 15, 2023
Over the weekend, some thirty guests from all walks of life - scientists, explorers, navigators, photographers... - will be on hand for meetings and screenings. Yann Quenet, François et Véronique Sarano, Roland Jourdain and Kirsten Neuschäfer will be on hand to address the theme of wind-powered transport.
A number of events will also take place during the Festival, including an exhibition on "Women and the Sea" at the Musée de la Marine in Port-Louis, and film screenings both in the submarine Flore and in a cinema specially created for the Festival. Exhibitions and a day of inclusive sailing, in the presence of navigator Damien Seguin, are also part of the program.
Visitors can also embark on a voyage of discovery of Lorient's heritage, learn about sculling or simply discover maritime heritage boats such as Grain de Sail, Pen Duick and Biche.
