4 ports of call for 5 Musée de la Marine sites

The Musée de la Marine is best known for its Parisian galleries at the Palais de Chaillot, due to reopen at the end of 2023. Whether in the Mediterranean or the Atlantic, sailors in search of culture can stroll through the institution's exhibition halls in Brest, Port-Louis, Rochefort and Toulon. We all know that summer cruises are sometimes disrupted by the weather, and that once ashore, whether forced or not, it's sometimes nice to have something to do other than wander around the quays and counters. The Musée de la Marine is a good extension of the cruise. For summer 2023, each of the coastal sites will feature a temporary exhibition with a very different character.

Submarines caught on camera in Brest

The Musée de la Marine in Brest is getting into the submarine spirit, through the prism of images, with the exhibition "Plongée, contre-plongée : les sous-marins dans l'objectif". A small universe par excellence, the interior of a submarine is a strange world, even for surface sailors. From the First World War to the present day, the exhibition takes visitors on a photographic and film tour of life on board.

Weapons in Toulon

The Toulon site takes a closer look at the Direction Générale de l'Armement - DGA, with an exhibition entitled "Designing tomorrow's weapons. In the secrets of the DGA". Designed in collaboration between the DGA, which celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2023, and the museum, the exhibition takes visitors on a voyage of discovery through the institution's history and innovations, using models, photos, videos and drawings.

The two sites in the port of Rochefort celebrate the centenary of Pierre Loti's death. Through two coupled exhibitions, they highlight the link between the famous writer and his brother Gustave Viaud, a naval surgeon and role model for his younger brother. Literary life and military career coexist in the exhibition "Pierre Loti / Gustave Viaud âeuros Deux frères unis pas la mer".

Contemporary art in Port-Louis

The citadel of Port-Louis, opposite Lorient, and its collections served as inspiration for students at the École européenne supérieure d'art de Bretagne - EESAB de Lorient during the 2022-2023 academic year. At the end of this school year, the students' works are scattered throughout the permanent collection, bringing a contemporary touch to the historical objects.
