Just 35 miles off the coast, the Perlas Islands take their name from pearl mining. The pleasant climate and multitude of anchorage possibilities have made this hundred-odd Pacific islands, just off the Panama Canal, an idyllic place for cruises and stopovers.

Richness of nature and landscapes

The waters of the Perlas archipelago, off the west coast of Panama, are home to magnificent coral reefs. Snorkelers can admire numerous species of tropical fish, coral and turtles. Pearls, on the other hand, are much rarer. On the other hand, from July to September is the migration period for humpback whales, which are much easier to spot than a small pearly sphere!

An archipelago of volcanic origin, the Perlas offer immaculate beaches and dreamy landscapes. Nature lovers can admire many birds as they hike through the lush vegetation, rich in fruit trees.

The entire archipelago, sparsely populated, exudes a rare peace and tranquility.

Isla Contadora, Panamanian weekend getaway

Sparsely populated, verdant Isla Contadora is a popular weekend getaway for wealthy Panamanians. The remains of the palatial Hotel Contadora, very much in vogue in the 80s, contribute to the charm of pretty Playa Larga. Numerous luxurious second homes occupy part of this territory, which is clearly reserved for a very wealthy class, but is nonetheless accessible to sailors passing through.

Espiritu Santo, a beached island

Isla Espiritu Santo has an interesting feature for yachtsmen. One of its many beaches is oriented in such a way that it is possible to run aground on it, thanks to the tide.

Isla San José, a private territory

Although privately owned, San José Island's tropical vegetation and dozens of beaches with crystal-clear, warm waters offer the opportunity for magnificent hikes and shore excursions.

It's also a haven for a host of wild pigs, deer, iguanas and other sloths, all of which seem to live here in a stress-free environment... You can anchor in a charming, tranquil bay, equipped with a small, plush hotel that blends in perfectly with the landscape.

A little barter never hurts...

In exchange for a few provisions, previously purchased in Panama, it is possible to fill the ship's hold with fresh produce. We'll be leaving San José with an impressive stock of grapefruits, oranges, lemons...

And a majestic collection of delicious souvenirs.
