A construction in one of the largest Turkish yards
The Scandinavian Viken Group, has chosen Turkey-based AES Yachts to develop a 60-meter expedition yacht with a range of 6,000 miles, named Mimer. The project was designed and developed by TDoS Yacht, part of the Viken Group, with the technical specifications being the work of AES. AES was chosen because it has one of the largest facilities in Turkey, capable of supplying everything in-house, from steel construction to furniture and interior fittings. Another decisive factor is the ability to build a model in 36 months, once an order is placed.

A family boat for owners between 30 and 40 years old
The initial specification is a boat for a 30-40 year old owner, looking for a family unit or a platform to share with friends and family.
Daniel Nerhagen, partner and head of the yacht department at Tillberg Design of Sweden, explains: "We've done a lot of expedition ships before and they're all very masculine in their design. We wanted a ship that didn't look aggressive, we wanted to create a 'she'. We also wanted to showcase our heritage of Scandinavian design, simple and luxurious."
Mimer is named after the Norse god who protected the well of knowledge at the base of the mythical Yggdrasil tree. The shipyard justifies the size of 60 m as being ideal to learn about exploration yachting. It details: "The smaller you are, you have to compromise on space for tenders and toys, the larger you go into a different and more expensive category."
The design features acres of glazing and glass in the bulwarks that provide 360-degree views from the guest lounges to the functional wheelhouse. TDoS also drew on the experience of experts, two shipping companies and a yacht management company, as well as the naval architecture know-how of Laurent Giles Superyacht Architecture.

Mimer can accommodate up to 12 guests in five luxurious suites on the main deck and one owner's suite on the upper deck. The owner's suite has its own deck on the foredeck, with a spa pool. there are 17 crew members on board, with additional space for the owner's crew. There are numerous indoor and outdoor entertainment areas on board, from the huge deck atop the superstructure, which serves as a favorite observatory, to three guest lounges, two dining rooms, a gym and a beach club aft.

A specific hull for polar navigation
Its exploration capabilities have been carefully considered. Mimer is offered with both a high-latitude hull built to Polar Code Category C, Ice 1 C standards or with a conventional hull that offers a more economical construction solution for non-extreme sailors. There are also two propulsion configurations, pods with diesel-electric generators or conventional engines with shaft drive. Studies are currently underway to consider alternative propulsion and power solutions as they evolve.
Three versions of exploration yacht
The large amount of tenders and toys that Mimer can carry reinforces its status as an exploration yacht. It is offered in three variants:
- World Traveller aft helipad with an additional saloon below main deck level, and space for a range of tenders and toys, including a luxury electric tender, a unit to land toys, two expedition RIBs, docks, a submersible, Jet Skis, an amphibious vehicle and a buggy.

- Air Explorer this version offers the same as the World Traveller, but with a helicopter hangar in place of the guest lounge at the rear. This version is perfect for polar or transoceanic cruising.

- Adventure Explorer this version uses the rear lounge/hangar as an additional annex garage, to carry for example a Ranger Rover, plus quads and a hovercraft.
