The return of the beautiful yacht in Brittany
With the return to Brest in 2020 of three of the world's most beautiful classic sailing ships, the Fife Mariquita, Moonbeam IV and Moonbeam designs, built in the early 19th century in Scotland, a new economic sector has developed in Finistère. Know-how has reappeared, such as sail design or fittings, while a sector for training young people in this type of sailing has been created, according to their promoters.
A new Breton event for classic sailboats
It is thanks to this dynamic that the Brest Finistère Classic was born, a new event dedicated to classic sailboats, with the objective of bringing back to the Celtic Sea sailboats designed for this type of navigation. This event will be held from August 21 to 26, 2023 between Brest and Douarnenez. It is organized by Kaori and Sea to See, two companies owned by Jacques and Laurence Caraës and Gwen Chapalain.
The ambition is to make this event mixing coastal courses and regattas in the bay a high level sport race, a reference for classic sailboats, at the tip of Brittany. The regattas will take place in the bay of Brest, in the bay of Douarnenez, with a passage through the Iroise Sea and the Tas de Pois.
Mainly Mediterranean events
As a reminder, the preferred circuit for these exceptional classic yachts is the Mediterranean. The Saint-Tropez Sailing Festival is one of the most important gatherings.
