In the sound jura, which separates the island of the same name from the Scottish coast, some very nice anchorages can be found at Carsaig. They offer an interesting choice of shelters for all types of wind. When the wind is from the East, the anchorage below Eilean Dubh is perfect. Small tour of this natural haven.

Outcropping rocks
There are two outcropping rocks in the bay between the north and south islets, Eilean Dubh and Eilean Nan Coinean . The one located to the north-east is only visible at low tide, while the one to the south is visible most of the time. However, there is enough room in the center to anchor without any problem.

An exceptional natural environment
The surrounding landscape is magnificent. The view on the island of Jura, in front of the anchorage, is simply splendid. In spring, primroses, narcissi and other flowers spring up from the ferns burnt by the winter cold. Everywhere nature abounds.

The water reservoirs between the rocks are home to many species of birds. The bay is also a refuge for seals. The seals are curious and stick their heads out to see the dinghy pass by and circle the boats.

The surrounding anchorages
Just above Eilean Dubh the main anchorage of Carsaig is located in the bay. Boats can anchor in different places. There are also mooring buoys for local boats, and there are small piers for landing with a dinghy.

A small cross road allows to reach Tayvallich from Carsaig. When the weather is good, it is a nice walk. There, a charming little port offers a number of services. You can eat in the restaurant or buy food in the modest local grocery store.
