Libertist 853: a sleek trimaran for sport cruising

Conceived and designed by Erik Lerouge, this 8.53 m hydrofoil trimaran is designed for fast cruising. Fast and minimalist, this trimaran will suit a crew looking for excellent performance under sail if you accept a basic comfort.

An accurate weight estimate

Made in Poland, the Libertist 853 takes up the leitmotivs dear to the architect Erik Lerouge: go fast in a simplified comfort. To go fast, a trimaran must be light. Made of vinylester sandwich, or epoxy as an option, this multihull displaces 1600 kg in running order. This light weight is explained by a tightly fitted construction and minimal accommodation.

The Libertist 853 is equipped with a central daggerboard and fixed foils on the floats. These are installed forward, to limit the phenomenon of enfournement and maintain the cruising program of the multihull. In order to adapt to a majority of programs, the Libertist is proposed in a version with fixed or folding arms.

A simple and well thought out deck plan

All maneuvers are performed on the piano in the central hull. The cockpit is quite large and circulation is easy. Everything is simple and well thought out to take full advantage of the Libertist's performance under sail.

As is often the case on trimarans, the helmsman is well accommodated, as he will find his place on the windward float and will be able to benefit from an unobstructed view of his sail plan.

NKE for the electronics and Harken for the deck layout: like its racing counterparts, the Libertist is equipped with premium equipment.

The small thermal outboard motor is not easily accessible. An electric motorization option with remote control is available on the Libertist. If the weight of the lithium battery will significantly reduce its performance, this type of motorization seems well adapted to a boat sailing under sail at the slightest wind.

With its straight bow, its voluminous floats with fine inlets, the Libertist 853 presents an aggressive and successful line.

Pragmatic arrangements

The central hull is equipped with a redan to improve its habitability. Inside, it is rustic but efficient. The descent ladder is quite steep.

A double berth, reserved for children or a couple in love because of its narrow width, is installed under the cockpit. The saloon offers two facing benches, which can be transformed into two single berths.

A small kitchen unit is installed at the foot of the mast, and behind the central bulkhead, there is a bathroom with toilet and shower. Finally, the front point is equipped with a double berth that 2 adults can occupy.

Always in a minimalist spirit, the storage space is limited. There is no question of restricting the performance of this multihull with an excess of equipment. On the outside, each float houses a storage box that can accommodate fenders and mooring lines.

Pricing: a well-positioned trimaran in a small market

On the elitist market of the fast cruising trimaran, the Libertist is facing the productions of Dragonfly, Corsair or the French shipyard Tricat. In its basic version, the Libertist 853 is offered at 160,000 euros TTC.

The model we visited, equipped among other options with folding arms and a carbon mast, was priced at 220,000 euros including tax.
