Paper8, a fully foldable sailboat to sail wherever you want

Designed in Italy, the Paper8 is a real small sailboat, fully foldable. A dinghy to carry with you when camping, or even as a dinghy in the hold of a good-sized unit.

A fully foldable boat

The Paper Otto was born from the imagination of 3 Italians, Giorgio Bergamini, Michele Vino and Marco Oliveto. In recent years, inflatable dinghies and other boats have flourished, taking advantage of the development of drop-stitch to combine rigidity and portability. They have invented a folding boat made of wood and textile. The Paper-Otto is made of marine plywood, the joints between folding planks are sealed with hypalon fabric. A central bench keeps the hull open, while taking up the daggerboard well.

A high capacity dinghy

Designed for travelers and families, the Paper Otto is capable of carrying up to 400 kilos on board. The sailboat itself, certified in category D, is only 3.05 meters long and 1.41 meters wide. It weighs only 58 kilos fully armed, the hull showing 41 kilos.

The boat can be propelled by rowing, by motor with an outboard motor up to 6 hp and of course by sail, with a 5.9 m2 mainsail with vertical horn, a 2.2 m2 jib and even a 5.6 m2 gennaker on the bowsprit.

Versatile use

The Paper Otto can easily be used by those who like to go on coastal walks. It can be loaded on the roof of a car. The folded shell is 3.19 m long, only 18 cm thick and 55 cm wide.

According to the builder, the yacht requires only 20 minutes of assembly to be fully ready to sail and rigged. A wheel mounted on a rear skeg makes launching easy.

A substantial budget

The only drawback compared to inflatable systems is that the budget remains quite substantial, and slightly higher. The Italian manufacturer offers its sailboat ready to sail for a price of 7900euros. However, with its large Optimist look, the Paper Otto has what it takes to seduce families who love camping.
