Aeolos 30 : A full carbon ORC sailboat with a clear design

Aeolos 30

The style of the Aeolos 30 does not go unnoticed. Here is a presentation of this full carbon sailboat, designed for the ORC regatta and discovered at the Boot Düsseldorf 2023.

A regatta sailboat made in Dubai

When you pass by the Aeolos 30 in the aisles of a boat show, your eye is immediately drawn to it. Its look stands out from the standard boats. This sailboat displays its sporty character in its lines, and does not leave the observer indifferent.

Its promoter, the German Hans Genthe, has settled in Dubai. There, he has set up a shipyard specialized in high performance composites and operates as a subcontractor for various ocean racing teams. The Aeolos is the first boat put on sale by the shipyard directly and will be quickly followed by a 45 footer. Racing is clearly the objective of the Aeolos 30, according to its builder. "It is built in prepreg carbon. The boat has been designed for the ORC rule, mainly solo or double-handed."

A hull designed for lodging

Relatively round, the hull has been optimized for smooth sailing. Even when sailing downwind, the yacht retains a certain amount of heel. All shapes have been designed for performance," says Hans Genthe: "The boat has an optimal RM at 20-30 degrees. The hull shape and bunk position allow for the same righting moment when resting off the quarter and when upwind in the cockpit."

The very large right bow and the huge bowsprit promise great surfing under the 111 m2 gennaker.

Numerous settings

At first glance, the cockpit of the Aeolos 30 may seem a bit cluttered, especially with the stainless steel footbraces. Nevertheless, everything is thought out for the adjustments, with various fine mainsail hoists, a position flush with the transom to manage the gennaker sheet.

The nice tiller, turning 180°, will facilitate the maneuvers. As for the piano, all the blockers are well protected under the "ears", on both sides of the descent.

Minimalist interior

The cabin is spartan to say the least. Two aluminum frames house the aft bunks. The gennaker sock occupies a large part of the space in regatta configuration. Particular care has been taken with the deck hatch and the water drainage.

The companionway, whose hinged steps can be raised, will serve as a watch seat, and by raising the last board, as a toilet! A carbon bucket is used as a toilet.

A high-end toy

The Aeolos will be able to accommodate various motorizations according to the choice, inboard or outboard in well. The location in a box behind the companionway is already planned.

With a base price of $128,000, the manufacturer estimates that a fully equipped boat will cost $200,000.
