Rushed to shore: "I lost my sailboat, my house, my work tool..."

In a few hours, Julian's Jeanneau Mélody disintegrated on the Breton rocks. This is the story of the loss of a sailboat crushed by the power of the sea and the rescue of what was left of it.

For the past year, Julian has been sailing on his Jeanneau Mélody, a 10.50 m sailing boat . He has just bought it with the intention of organizing climbing and canyoning courses. Indeed, Julian is an instructor in this field. This boat will be his work tool as well as his home. But the project is going to stop abruptly on Tuesday June 7th 2022 at 12:30 am.

That day, he was a volunteer on a festival in Lampaul near Brest. He received a phone call from the CROSS, which informed him that his boat had run aground on the rocks. Fortunately, there was no one on board. He stopped all activity and ran to the scene, discovering his helplessness. His boat began to break up. The boat was dismasted. With the jolts of the sea, the keel became detached from the hull, which then broke into a thousand pieces. At 12:30 pm, there is already no more boateuros

Thanks to the recordings of the town hall camera, Julian will be able to retrace the journey of Border-Line. The Jeanneau Mélody is anchored on a buoy in the port of Bertheaume in Finistère. With a crew of mountaineers, it has just returned from a cruise to the Scilly Islands. On Saturday, he went on board to get some things and check the mooring. He completed the 2 mooring lines in place with a third one still directly attached to the upper ring of the buoy. This Tuesday, a south wind is blowing, with a little current. The tidal coefficient is 50.

On the video image, he discovers that the boat drops its buoy at 7:15. What happened? Julian is still wondering. Did the ragging probably get the better of the 3 mooring lines? The mystery remains. Julian will not find the bow of his boat, nor the cleats, nor the mooring lines. At 8:00 am, the sailboat was seen in front of the beach of Tregana. At 9:30 am, Border-Line touched the rocks 1 mile further. Alerted, the SNSM arrived on site at 10:30 am, but it was too late to intervene. At 12:30 pm, only crumbs of the Melodyeuros remained

Insured with a third party policy, Julian informs his insurer. But when he learned that Julian was living on board, a situation that was not included in the contract, the insurer totally disassociated himself from the accident. He did not even pay for the clean-up! Summoned by the Maritime Affairs, Julian had to start cleaning up the site. In this boat, he has his whole life: his climbing gear, his personal belongings and all the equipment of a sailing boat armed for the high seas.

With the help of friends, he will bring up the cliffs the pieces of mast, the anchorages, the fittings and everything he can gather. Unfortunately, the sea has taken its toll. Today, only the engine and the keel remain on this rock.

Now Julian has to rebuild his life. Of the estimated 23 000 euros of his sailboat, he has nothing left. Friends have set up a fund to help him recreate a new project.
