A world tour in search of low-tech
Leaving Concarneau in 2016, the catamaran Nomade des mers has sailed the seas of the globe for 6 years in search of "low-tech", these sober technologies allowing to meet the needs of the population while limiting the impact on the environment and the cost of implementation. With 25 stopovers in 6 years, the crew led by Corentin de Chatelperron tested 53 of these low-tech technologies from Asia, Africa or America. They implemented them on board the sailing boat, a Kennex 445 catamaran designed by VPLP in 1993.

On-board solutions for food, waste or energy
The boat has been transformed into a real test platform for the low-tech projects collected. They cover a wide range of topics, from food production and manufacturing, to waste management on board and energy production. We find on board a cricket farm, an aquaponics plant production for food, a spirulina production, a composting system using fly larvae, dry toilets, water filters made of clay or sand. Solar or wood-fired cooking systems are numerous. As for energy, calves and arms are put to work to put tools in motion or produce electricity alongside a homemade windmill.

Discover the Nomade des Mers and its solutions
On the occasion of her return to her home port of Concarneau, a 10-day festival allows enthusiasts to visit the boat between June 25 and July 3, 2022. Beyond the discovery of the catamaran Nomade des mers, a rich program of conferences, film screenings or courses and training is proposed.
But for those of you who can't make it, in the next few days we'll be offering you a series of articles on these technologies that you could install on your boat to make your DIY cruise more sober, more autonomous and more sustainable.
