Ocean Eco 60 Coupé, a solar electric catamaran for long distance cruising

The Ocean Eco 60 Coupe is an 18.4 m catamaran that runs on solar energy combined with electric motors and two generators to extend its autonomy. Available in owner or charter version, it is distinguished by a modern look underlined by a roof connected to the structure of the boat.

An electric coupe model, ready to receive a fuel cell

Alva Yachts, German manufacturer of solar electric catamarans and sailboats euros, whose launch we announced in 2020, unveils the Ocean Eco 60 Coupé. The first 18.4-meter-long model, equipped with electric propulsion and generators, and ready to be fitted with a fuel cell, has been sold and is scheduled for delivery in late 2022. This model is based on the structure of the Ocean Eco 60 and 60 Explorer, except for the flybridge.

"The new Ocean Eco 60 Coupe offers a sportier, more elegant exterior with a more understated silhouette. Like the other models in the Alva line, the Coupe is designed for adventure and as a true blue water yacht. It can travel up to 2euro800 miles using the generator to recharge the batteries while using the additional solar panels." explains Milan Henn, design manager at Alva Yachts.

A roof covered with solar panels

With a beam of 10.2 m, it offers 230 m2 of interior and exterior living space. Designed to offer unlimited and silent autonomy, the Ocean Eco 60 Coupe has a roof with integrated solar panels, the energy being stored in batteries to power the electric motors.

The catamaran receives two electric motors of 250 kW connected to a battery park of 150-280 kWh, powered by the sun and generators for a maximum speed of 20 knots. The solar panels reach 18 kWp (kilowatt-peak) while the diesel generators, associated with tanks of 2x500 L, produce 2x100kW/DC (direct current). This configuration allows her, according to the shipyard, to cross the Atlantic in autonomy. The shipyard ensures a comfortable and stable navigation and an easy maneuverability even in difficult conditions.

A proprietary or charter development

The design of the Ocean Eco 60 Coupe is rather elegant and refined according to the first visuals. It is distinguished by its very large roof extended forward and sideways to cover the side decks and by a junction on the hull bows. The foredeck is equipped with two L-shaped benches with table and offers many storage and refrigeration options.

Access to the water is from the aft skirts and the dinghy is housed in a central garage. The cockpit is equipped with a large bench seat and two tables. Access to the main deck is via a bay window where there is a generous galley to port with a large fridge/freezer and a separate island with bar and stools.

An observation lounge with L-shaped bench seat adjoins the cockpit, which has two pilot and co-pilot seats. The two lateral companionways lead to the lower deck. Two configurations are available for this model, an owner layout and a charter layout.

The owner's layout offers a generous master suite throughout the starboard hull, complete with private bathroom and office. For charter, the office converts to an additional guest cabin.

The port hull is fitted out with a double cabin and a twin cabin, both offering storage space and en-suite bathrooms.

Two skippers cabins can be installed in the hulls.
