Paddling: how does a traction bench work?

The company Escale Rigging, located in Marseille, opened its doors to us to show us this unique equipment in the development and work on ropes.

What is a traction bench?

A traction bench is an essential tool for testing and trials on specific acts of seamanship. The model developed by Escale Rigging is composed of a hydraulic jack capable of developing a load of 30 tons, which makes it one of the largest in the industry. The whole system is connected to a computer that records all the parameters during the tensioning of the worked rope. Based on its extensive experience in the field, Escale Rigging collaborates with the manufacturers Lancelin, Cousin Trestec or Mafioli in the choice of its ropes.

Applications in the nautical industry and the Super Yacht

Escale Rigging is called upon to define and carry out maneuvers or hooks adapted to each request. " We have developed internal software to define each of the maneuvers or hooks to be performed and keep a history. All the parameters of the boat are recorded in order to calculate the most accurate work to be done. If a maneuver is too light, it breaks. If it's too heavy, it penalizes the boat's performance. It's up to us to find the right balance! "

Applications in industry and the military

Escale Rigging receives various requests and manages different projects from design to completion: work for nuclear submarines, winch slings for military ships, slings for airships or textile hooks for the industrial environment.

" The realization of such assemblies requires both a real know-how of the sailor, but also the recognition of test and inspection organization, in order to be able to establish certificates of use. "
