Jean Le Cam's Vendée Globe in 80 sketches

Emmanuel Guiavarc'h followed Jean Le Cam's Vendée Globe 2020 by drawing a daily anecdote with a humorous sketch. Here are the 80 days of the race gathered in a single book published with the complicity of Anne and Jean Le Cam.

Jean Le Cam has animated the 2020 edition of the Vendée Globe. With an exemplary course by keeping the front of the race despite an old generation boat, by saving the skipper Kévin Escoffier who saw his IMOCA sinking under his feet, but above all by not mincing his words about his situation and his feelings about the race.

This 62-year-old competitor, who has participated in the Vendée Globe five times, has a large following of fans. Thus, the one who is called "King Jean", takes a malicious pleasure to animate with reflections on his daily life as an ocean racer. Four years ago, Emmanuel Guiavarc'h had already sketched the story of the skipper's race to share it on social networks. These publications became a book published in 3000 copies and now out of print.

For the 2020/21 edition, the drawer took back his notebooks and started again in the adventure. Without being in relation with the sailor, he draws each day an anecdote according to what he gathers from the impressions transmitted by Jean Le Cam, the facts of the race, the weather... These drawings are enriched by a small text that explains the situation, often accompanied by extracts from the sailor's live broadcasts.

As we go through the pages of King Jean Le Cam's Vendée Globe, we relive the race day by day. Only the last sketches enrich the story. Indeed, after crossing the line, Jean Le Cam confessed that he almost sank before passing the Horn. Details of the repairs are explained here in drawings.
