In 2017, the French brand SIMY landed on the French market of safety at sea a new AIS-MOB beacon named "My-AIS". Behind this very compact model is the company SYRLINKS. The company is one of the world's leading manufacturers of radio products for satellite communication with the ground. SYRLINKS has made a name for itself in the field of emergency beacons by supplying BREITLING with a PLB micro beacon that the Swiss watchmaker integrates into its EMERGENCY watch. This was a world first, a record that is still unmatched. From there to produce its own beacon, there is only one step that SYRLINKS takes in 2017 by creating its brand SIMY Emergency Beacons. My-AIS is launched, the SIMY adventure is underway.
The smallest AIS beacon in the world!
The My-AIS beacon is a personal beacon that is ideally worn in a self-inflating vest. When it is activated, it emits a man overboard (MOB) signal that is picked up by all nearby AIS receivers. Starting with the one on the boat you just fell off!
My-AIS is distinguished by its small size: the most compact on the market (30% less than the smallest of the competition): 115 x 40 x 22 mm and only 95 g! This is particularly important when you need to fit your beacon in your vest without hindering your movements.
Designed for a life jacket
The My-AIS beacon has a system to fit on the mouthpiece of any vest. Symmetrical, this clip can be installed on the right or left side of the beacon in order to adapt it to the vest models. The beacon is activated when the antenna cover is moved vertically downwards. Thus, with a simple toggle attached on one side to the beacon and on the other to a fixed point at the bottom of the vest, the beacon will be activated automatically and at the same time as the vest inflates.
If the beacon is accidentally triggered (wrong operation), the user can easily reset it by himself, without going through any after-sales service. Rather than triggering the beacon to test it, pressing a simple "self-test" button allows the user to check before setting out to sea that it is fully functional and that its battery level is in order. At the same time as the emission of an AIS-MOB signal, a flash light (white light) is activated. Its integrated 72-channel GPS will transmit the position very precisely 8 times per minute. A beep sound (at each radio transmission) reminds the castaway that his beacon is transmitting his distress and his position.
A studied rate
If the My-AIS beacon is the smallest in the world, it is also the cheapest on the market since it is proposed at a retail price of 229 euros. Duo" packs with 2 beacons are also available at 399 euros. A feat for this French company based in Rennes and whose beacon is entirely manufactured in the region.
4 new models are under development in the SYRLINKS company: an evolution of My-AIS as well as several PLB are in project for a release planned in spring 2022. We will come back to them soon.
