Containment, what measures for boaters?

Due to the health crisis, a new lockdown has been decreed. It will come into effect this Saturday, April 3, 2021, midnight. What about boating?

According to the Ministry of the Sea, "The recreational practice of nautical, recreational and diving activities is authorized, provided that the measures provided for in Decree No. 2020-1310, as amended, are respected."

However, certain rules must be respected:

  • Compliance with the measures of physical distance and hygiene provided for by this decree. As with land-based gatherings, no more than 6 people will be required on board. Finally, masks will be mandatory on the pontoons.
  • Compliance with the 10 km radius between home, port of departure and port of arrival.

Thus, only boaters whose boat is within a 10 km radius of their home are allowed to sail. In the same way, if you go to sea, you will have to go to a port of arrival within the same radius.

Port departures and arrivals will also not be allowed between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. except for two reasons:

  • For a compelling personal reason (return to the home port for a pleasure boat started before the entry into force of decree n° 2020-1310 of October 29, 2020). This compelling personal reason must be validated beforehand by the delegation for the sea and the coast of the department of departure or arrival.
  • To participate in a mission of general interest at the request of the administrative authority.

You will need a document to prove that the trip in question falls into one of these categories.

If you are already at sea, you should be able to continue sailing. However, if you are at anchor during this time period, you will not be able to stop over on land.
