It is May 12, 2020, and Sarah, Aurélien, Nael and Mia cast off in the direction of French Polynesia. A difficult departure for Nael who had become very attached to Costa Rica: school, friends, animals at anchor and for Mia, suffering from seasickness.
Very quickly, you have to manage the storms in the Doldrums by adapting the sail area, changes in wind speed and direction, squalls etc. Everyone on board is busy as best they can.
In the end, these first 36 hours of sailing will be done under engine, since the wind will have decided to disappear. Aurélien is therefore obliged to refuel as he still has to wait 24 hours to get some wind from the south.
After a fourth day at the engine - the wind being from the front - Maloya is finally back under sail. The 5th day is that of entering the trade winds! The night has been difficult for Sarah, with squalls to deal with, changes in wind direction and children waking up.
After a week at sea, life on board is getting organised and the organisms are amarinating. The family still takes the opportunity to eat fresh vegetables, Sarah takes care of the children in the morning while Aurélien finishes his night, in short, life goes on in the end, not too much change after a confinement of a month and a half
We leave Maloya in the north of the Galapagos, enjoying the passage of terns and gannets above the boat. The beginning was the hardest, but the bulk of the storms and squalls are now over. The result of this first week: 60 hours of motoring!
