At Excess, the range goes from 11 to 15 m. The Excess 15 is therefore the big brother of this new brand of catamarans designed by the Bénéteau Group. Its positioning comes between the Lagoons, renowned for their comfort, and the fast catamarans with daggerboards. Excess offers yachts that are simple to operate, dynamic without being complex.
This brand is aimed at customers who have already been sailing a catamaran, either for charter or as an owner, and who are looking for a sailing boat that is playful but comfortable enough to accommodate family and friends.
The Excess 15 meets this request. This can be seen by boarding the vessel and discovering the two off-centre helm stations at the stern of each hull. Installed just above the rudders, they can benefit from a direct transmission, by means of lines that avoid the installation of a hydraulic system that erases all sensations for the helmsman. In addition, this offset position outside the boat provides a good view of the sail plan, a perfect place to look ahead and, above all, a very pleasant proximity to the water as soon as the boat moves noiselessly thanks to the wind.
To reduce the final weight of the boat, the basket is deliberately kept short. Thus, even if the mast is well aft to offer more performance, it is located in front of the deckhouse and avoids the unavoidable epontille found on Lagoons. If the gondola is shorter, the loss of volume is not obvious on this 15m. The large open cockpit in conjunction with the saloon offers the perfect space to sail or have a good time. In addition, the canvas bimini that opens to let the sunshine in will be particularly appreciated by the whole crew.
No spectacular innovation in the fittings, but a very clean treatment with 3 or 4 cabins and 3 or 4 toilets. A proven solution that has made all multihull yachtsmen happy. Note the large sunbathing area in front of the deckhouse on the foredeck, offering a beautiful platform for sunbathing at anchor.
