r'Ose Transat, a crossing to rebuild oneself

Can you still live with plans when you're in remission from breast cancer? The entire crew of r'Ose Transat proves it to us as we embark on a voyage with this pink-coloured female crew.

They are 7 Swiss women who have gone through the ordeal of breast cancer. And under the impulse of Elisabeth Thorens Gaud, they decided to thumb their noses at the disease and set themselves a challenge: that of crossing the Atlantic.

To do this, this troop that nothing seems to be able to stop is looking for a boat, sponsors and a skipper. And in November 2019, here they are on the quay in the Canary Islands ready to set sail for Martinique.

Everyone needs to rebuild themselves, at their own pace, with their values. This book tells the story of this period of crossing so favourable to introspection. If some prefer to manage this passage alone, others appreciate the quarters under the stars to exchange.

This book tells the story of this passage. We feel that the exchanges between women who have undergone the same hardships must have been rich, liberated and deep. The absence of male presence obviously helped to untie the languages. But on this, we will only know crumbs of it. Except that this "adventure" clearly left its mark on the minds of these sailors.

The book splits in three. A first part to describe the story of these women and their illness, the one that led to the setting up of the project. The meetings and the assembly to find the catamaran that will carry them across the Atlantic are also told. Then comes the technical part. Not about the manoeuvres of the sails or the navigation. These pages are reserved for breast cancer. To the explanation of the disease and its consequences. And the problems of reconstruction.

Finally comes the purely nautical account with a logbook of the 25 days at sea. With the watches, the small clashes, the tensions and the manoeuvres. But also the joys and "collaborative" deliriums of each one. In the end, a transatlantic race with no great story, but one that writes a very beautiful story. A beautiful message of hope for all the women suffering from this disease.
