SWCAT90, a luxury catamaran for a round-the-world trip

Specialist in custom superyacht sailing, the South African manufacturer Southern Wind Shipyards is launching its first luxury catamaran.

Southern Wind Shipyards, based in South Africa, specializes in building custom sailing monohulls. With a production of 3 boats per year, Southern Wind is a player in the market of high-tech semi-custom boats from 24 to 35 m.

The shipyard now wishes to develop a range of luxury multihulls. The first model is the SWCAT90 is a sailing catamaran with a length of 27 m offering the habitability of a monohull of almost 40 m?! It has been developed in partnership with Nauta Design, in charge of style and design, and the naval architecture firm Berret-Racoupeau, very experienced in large luxury units.

This boat, like all Southern Wind monohulls, seeks to combine contemporary performance, a very high level of comfort and reliability. The SWCAT90 has a platform that can be customized according to the needs of the owners. The living space is impressive with a floor area of 170 m2, in the centre of which stands a 45 m2 square offering a full panoramic view.

The exterior is not to be outdone, with a flybridge and two cockpits with an impressive 207 m2. It is simply twice the size of a monohull of the same size. The interior layout includes 4 guest cabins and 2 or 3 crew cabins, separated from the luxurious guest area.

Berret-Racoupeau has therefore designed a large and comfortable all-carbon yacht in order to guarantee honourable performance. Moreover, two sail plans are available according to the owners' expectations. And for the appendages, the design office has provided two curved daggerboards and rudders with a bearing surface to increase comfort and speed. However, considering the total weight of 56 light tons, these appendages will not transform the boat into an America's Cup catamaran.
