Special Edition / Rental management at Moorings/Sunsail

The practice of yachting is evolving, as is rental management. We spoke to Guillaume Caffin, Head of European Development of Rental Management Solutions at Sunsail Moorings, to discuss the latest developments.

" Previously, most clients used the rental management system to buy a boat to enjoy when they retired. 6 years before they stopped working, they invested with us in the purchase of a boat and the 6 rental seasons allowed them to finance part of their purchase. There are still a few clients who follow this program which works very well, but it is no longer the majority. "

Indeed, nowadays, clients invest in weeks of vacation. A customer who has a visibility on the next 5 years can buy a sailboat in rental management and will have the insurance to benefit from the same model in all the bases of the world. Exceptional vacations guaranteed. A bit like renting a car or a computer, not looking to own a property at any cost, the rental management allows him to use his sailboat when he can. And at the end of the program, he sells his boat to start a new program or not.

An increasingly high level of service

The premium positioning of Moorings with very studied services on the bases and the quality offered reassures the owners who avoid all surprises at the time of their renting. Moorings is currently working to further improve this service through the development of digital tools and a continuous improvement of the customer experience at the base. This is the strength of rental companies that manage their own fleet with their own employees.

The boats are also increasingly equipped with more and more high-end services (generator, air conditioning, watermaker, solar panels, underwater lighting). It is a strong demand from customers that pushes the charter company to offer this type of highly equipped boat.

Cata or mono?

Currently, Morings Sunsail uses the Bénéteau Group for the delivery of their monohulls. They have had a long-standing partnership with this group (since the joint creation of the Idylle in 1982) to produce customized units in terms of configurations and equipment. The 40 to 45 feet size remains the most requested.

For catamarans, the Travelopia group (Moorings Sunsail) has had an exclusive partnership with the Robertson & Caine shipyard in South Africa since 1997 and continues to offer the entire range from 40 to 58 feet, both for sailboats and motor models. The passage of hurricane Irma made it necessary to order Lagoon yachts (42, 46 and 50) to fill in for the large replacements in the fleet. Among the catamarans, the flagship model remains the 45, which can be found on all Moorings Sunsail bases.
