Orca, an exploration superyacht inspired by the killer whale

Orca is the new exploration superyacht project of the Italian superyacht manufacturer Rosetti. This 65-metre long explorer was inspired by the morphology of the killer whale, the "most powerful member of the dolphin family."

The Italian manufacturer Rosetti has just unveiled its new superyacht concept, a 65 m long Explorer with polar certification called Orca. This expedition boat was inspired by the morphology of the killer whale and has a robust design, and a "bold superstructure style" as well as a radar antenna that recalls the animal's dorsal fin . To magnify the resemblance to the killer whale, Meccano Engineering, responsible for the ship's engineering, naval architecture and exterior design, has even added a typical white spot to the superstructure - at the owner deck level - that will light up at night.

"The design imitates that of the killer whale, the largest and most powerful member of the dolphin family." explains Fulvio Dodich, Managing Director of Rosetti Superyachts. "Instantly recognizable by their distinctive black and white colour, these marine mammals travel the world's oceans from the Arctic to the Antarctic and the tropics, which is what our explorer is destined to do ", he adds.

The exterior design combines curved and straight lines with the characteristics of the support ships already built by Rosetti. With a 12 m master mate and a 1300 GT gauge, Orca will accommodate up to 12 guests in 6 cabins, including an owner's suite, a full width VIP cabin on the main deck, two VIP cabins and guest cabins on the lower deck.

The owner's private suite has two separate bathrooms with separate toilets for him and her, a dressing room, a gym and a large private terrace overlooking the large open main deck. The crew quarters can accommodate up to 12 people.

The large aft deck is an ideal storage platform for toys and various tenders and also has a large helipad. Two tenders, jet skis or quads and a submarine can be easily stored there, with two independent cranes on port and starboard to facilitate launch. Under the deck, additional space is available to store two more tenders and more toys.

Other deck configurations may include an overflow pool in the centre, a helicopter hangar or an elevated helipad, with a pool or lounge below.

Orca will have two CAT 3512 scorers offering an autonomy of 5?000 miles at a cruising speed of 11 knots. The Italian manufacturer estimates the construction time of the first model at 36 months.
