In Class40, there are many boats, from the latest generation Class40 to the Class40 "Vintage". It is this eclecticism that makes the class so dynamic and open to enlightened amateurs. So, how much money do you need to buy your bateau?? The answer with Louis Duc, one of the leaders of the Class, who is sailing on the Crosscall Chamonix-Mont-Blanc boat.

Between 600,000 and 650,000 euros excluding VAT

We are talking here about the construction of a new boat of the latest generation

Example: Carac a lift 40 on Plan Lombard from 2017 or the new Crédit Mutuel Plan David Raison or the latest Mach 40.4 Banque du Léman on Plan Manuard.

"If the basic price can be around 400,000 euros excluding VAT, you have to add electronics (around 80,000 euros), sails (60,000 euros) and many hours of preparation

Between 400,000 and 500,000 euros excluding VAT

We are talking here about a last-cry but second-hand boat.

Ex: Corum, V&B

"With boats in this category, we can hope to win races. They're a little bit in underneath the latest generation boats but retain their full potential."

The advantage is to have a boat already prepared and slightly dilapidated it's a valuable time saver. However, these boats are often almost as expensive as a new boat.

Between 240,000 and 300,000 euros

We are talking here about boats of the Mach 1 or Mach 2 generation that are not as powerful as the Mach 3 but they compete in pre-season races that require versatility.

Ex: Vaquita, Mach1 Imerys clean energy, ?

"They're good boats to play for performance but maybe not able to win the Transat Jacques Vabre."

150,000 to 200,000 euros

We are talking here about the Akilaria RC2, RC3 and Pogo S2 boats.

Example: Jean Baptiste Daramy who finished 10th of the previous Route du Rhum on his Pogo40S2

"The objective is to have fun and enjoy a great experience. The boat will certainly be less efficient but we know it by heart and we can shoot it. We can still hope for a good hold-up, even if against formidable competitors, it will be difficult to place in the top 20."

Christophe Breschi

150,000 euros

These are the "Vintage" boats like the Jumbo or the first generation Pogo40.

"These are boats that are sportily outdated but run between them. It's a kind of class in the classroom, which works very well for example on the Route du Rhum."
