What happened on your bodies of water this weekend? (10-11 August 2019)

2nd stage, Olympic sailing world championships, Figaro race: these were the regattas that punctuated the weekend.

La Douarnenez Gijon Douarnenez

The start of the 2nd stage of the Douarnenez Gijon Douarnenez was given on Saturday 10th August: 780 miles between Gijon and Douarnenez via the famous Fastnet, the only course mark to be avoided. It was in ten to fifteen knots of north-northwest wind and a bright sunshine that the fleet crossed the starting line.

After two days at sea, the fig growers sail in rough seas and the boats struggle to find the right rhythm. In the lead, the two skippers Brittany CMB, Loïs Berrehar and Tom Laperche continue to lead the way, followed as their shadow by Martin Le Pape (Skipper Macif 2017).

The 2019 World Championships of 470 (double dinghies)

Held from August 2 to 9, just one year before the Olympic Games, the 2019 World Championships of 470 were held on the Enoshima lake. The weather conditions were intense and the level of competition very demanding. European champions Camille Lecointre and Aloïse Retornaz won the bronze medal, while the men's team Jérémie Mion and Kevin Peponnet finished in a fine 5th place.

The Transgascogne

The end of the Transgascogne race will have put the sailors' nerves to the test. The fault was a complete collapse of the wind off the Vendée coast. This second stage between Cantabria and the Vendée via buoy SN-1 located at the mouth of the Loire was expected to be decisive. And for good reason, in Proto as in Series, the gaps were very small at the end of the first round.

Over these 270 miles of course, improvisation has been legion since nothing has happened as expected. In Proto, Erwan Le Mené won by 15 minutes and 56 seconds ahead of Tanguy Bouroullec, the skipper of Cerfrance, who himself was 34 minutes and 59 seconds ahead of Axel Trehin. In series, Matthieu Vincent (947 - L'Occitane en Provence) wins.
