Here are the coastal and offshore regattas that took place in the Atlantic and Mediterranean this weekend, June 8 and 9, 2019.

Hempel World Cup Series Final Marseille - June 2 to 9

Due to the lack of stable winds in Marseille harbour, only two of the five series still in the running were able to compete in their medal race on Sunday 9th June. It was just after 4:00 p. m. that the 470 men started their final race followed by the 470 women.

At the end of the final, Italy won the Trophy Nation, 1st nation in the overall ranking. France wins 4 medals (excluding Kiteboard): 2 gold and 2 bronze and is second in the nations ranking.

Normandy Cup - June 3 to 10

The Normandie Cup ended on Sunday June 9 with the Normandie Match Cup, the first stage of the WIM Series circuit, an international women's match racing circuit. Victory won by Pauline Courtois and her crew, the world's number one in women's match racing.

The 13 teams registered in the Regional Sailing League, formerly the Club Challenge, met on Sunday. The Société Nautique d'Enghien won the competition, but it is the Centre Nautique Valeriquais (the first Norman club) to reach second place which will participate in the National Sailing League which will take place in Poses on 13 and 14 September.

The J/80 and Open 5.00 were held a second time in Le Havre Bay. They turned for a few hours around a banana course before returning to port.

After a night in Fécamp, the boats participating in the Newfoundland Rally returned to Le Havre in a friendly atmosphere. No ranking at all, the fleet sailed for the pleasure of being ensemble?!

The races had started in Diam24 last Monday, Cheminées Poujoulat won the Normandy Cup victory, as well as the Tour Voile Series.

Rolex Giraglia - June 7 to 15

The Rolex Giraglia takes place in the Bay of Saint-Tropez. In 2019, the famous race attracted a record fleet of 289 monohulls from all over the world. The first day of the coastal regatta was held on Friday 7th June, in light conditions with a wind of 5 to 15 knots.

The Rolex Giraglia is played in 3 distinct stages:

  • A first night regatta between Sanremo and Saint-Tropez whose arrival was judged (Saturday) in front of the entrance to the port.
  • Three days of coastal regattas off the coast of the city of Bailli de Suffren.
  • Wednesday start of the big ocean race. The fleet of 289 sailboats will set off for a 241-mile sprint between Saint-Tropez and Monaco via the Giraglia rock north of Cape Corsica.

Aber Wrac'h Cross-Channel - June 7-9

Despite a shortened course, constrained by the weather conditions, the competitors announced remained loyal to the Transmanche. Among them, young crews, an Omani crew, regulars and very beautiful units. Enough to make a perfectly successful cocktail for this 35th edition, which sees the victory of Jeronimo by Patrick Elies and Jacques Caraës, in doubles, Glaz Filière Mer Crédit Agricole by Alain Barazer and Ali, by Domnique Apperé in crew.

23 boats had started this "shortened" Transmanche for a 94-mile course that consisted of following the coast to Trebeurden and then returning to Aber Wrac'h. After a long downwind leg in a steady wind of 20 to 25 knots west, the return was made with the same wind, upwind, until midway through the course to gradually ease off, switching to the south during the night from Saturday to Sunday.
