Choosing a destination, estimating a sailing time or anticipating sea conditions can sometimes be complicated for yachtsmen. Between routing software designed for regattas and general-purpose weather applications, few tools aim for simple, comfortable navigation. This is the niche that Naveo, a young application initially developed on the Côte d'Azur, is currently working in.
The project began with Alexandre, a yachtsman from Nice and recent owner of a 9-meter Mallard. When sailing in the Mediterranean, he is often faced with the same questions before setting sail: how long will the crossing take? What kind of weather will he encounter en route? What course should we adopt to avoid uncomfortable sailing?
When looking for an existing solution, we quickly came to the conclusion. The routing tools available often require you to enter the boat's speed polar, and are mainly aimed at racers looking to save a few minutes on a course. Few applications really take into account cruising, where crew comfort counts as much as speed.
An application designed for coastal cruising
Alexandre then decided to develop his own tool with his brother, who is far removed from boating as he is a chef by profession. Their objective: to create a simple application capable of quickly providing useful information to a yachtsman before a trip out to sea. Naveo was born. Alexandre uses it, appreciates it and says to himself that if the product meets his needs, why not share it?
A first version is already up and running, with several departure ports available on the Côte d'Azur. The idea is not yet to market the product, but to develop it further based on feedback from sailors.
Testers wanted in the Mediterranean
The designers are now looking for boaters willing to try out the application and share their comments on ergonomics or functionalities. At this stage of development, sailors along the Mediterranean coast between Marseille and Italy are particularly interested.
Do you sail in this area? Don't hesitate to download this new product and take part in a wonderful adventure that we hope will become one of the nuggets of tomorrow's electronic navigation?
