Guirec Soudé is the young sailor who left France to try to cross the Northwest Passage on his sailboat the Yvinec. While stopping over in the Canary Islands, friends offered him a chicken. He'll call her Monique. She will accompany him on his journey and become the first hen to have crossed this mythical passage!
If Guirec will tell his 3 years of sailing with his hen in a book to be published soon (announced for April 2019 at Arthaud), it is this time that he is addressing children with this book: many photos, very few texts.
We can discover how Monique lives on board, what she eats, what she loves and above all how many eggs she lays. The few numbers at the end of the book tell us that Monique laid 1040 eggs during the journey! We see Monique at the helm, Monique manoeuvring, Monique on the ice, Monique swimming...
The children will love this contact with nature, the presence of animals in the sailor's daily life, the surprising love that this young man has for his hen.
There also remains the feat of this boy who left at 21 years of age and who, at 24 years of age, is the youngest solo sailor to have crossed the Northwest Passage after 130 days of wintering, blocked by the ice.
By following Monique's adventures, children will be able to discover this universe of the Far North and the difficulties encountered by sailors in navigating these delicate waters.
