The Mini was created to put an end to the dicta of the big boats. Its creator (an Englishman) wanted to make ocean racing accessible. Hence the idea of setting off on a 6.50 m sailboat with no other restrictions.

From the very first edition in 1977, this race has been run and orchestrated by the racers themselves. It is they who, now united in an association, manage their own regulations and approve the organization of the races. This unique set-up continues to this day.

" Since 1977, 962 people, including 65 women, have taken the start of a Mini-Transat in which 34 countries have been represented. "This book reminds us of the importance of the race, and gives us a complete listing of all the participants. But this book is not simply a compilation of figures or accounts of the various editions. No, it goes into the details of what makes the Mini. Its joys, its sorrows, starting with the difficulties of getting to the starting line.

Gathering examples of sailors from numerous editions, the author shows readers the importance of this race in the life and career of a sailor. Most of the participants in this big family, which was very supportive both on land and at sea, can be found among today's famous sailors. The expression " Pass your Mini first "This book explains it all.

Patrick Benoiton paints an almost "idyllic" portrait of the event, sometimes forgetting to mention the sailors who were unable to take part for lack of budget or space. Disregarding these major disappointments, this book may well be a little bomb in the heads of dreamers in whom the seed of the Mini may well germinate. But isn't that precisely what this race is all about: setting out on a dream, facing up to reality and ending up on the other side of the Atlantic with a fine victory over oneself?
