Düsseldorf, a very popular scene for the European Powerboat of the Year

The European Powerboat Award is one of the most prestigious awards in the nautical industry. Each year, it gives priority to the 25 to 45 foot motor boats that have marked the year. Launched in 2005 by the German magazine Boote, it is now a true European, if not global, recognition.

If the 25 nominees are chosen following the Cannes Yachting Festival, the five winners are announced at the opening night of the German Boot Show in Düsseldorf. With nearly 2?000 exhibitors and 1?800 boats presented, the world show is a perfect opportunity to present the winning boats.

Common characteristics to choose the winners

25 boats are selected by a jury of European nautical journalists according to specific criteria. Classified into 5 size categories, they are then evaluated and compared on the basis of manufacturing, design, safety, driving behaviour, performance, technical characteristics, design, space allocation and price-quality ratio. The boat that wins the most points in its category wins the title of European Motorboat of the Year.

The winners are revealed on the evening of the opening of the Düsseldorf Boot (19 January 2019) in front of all the worksites present at the event. The ceremony also rewards the European sailboats of the year 2019.

The nominees are announced each year at the Cannes Yachting Festival, which is held in September. And the choice is made by the jury in November according to a list of characteristics that are compared to each other and scored according to an internal rating system. Here they are:

Entry level boats under 25 feet for a day at sea

Family models from 25 to 35 feet for a weekend at sea

Stars from 35 to 45 feet to travel far

Yachts over 45 feet to live on the water
