Tempest 50: Maxi-rib, maxis engines!

Tempest 50

Capelli shipyard in collaboration with Yamaha Marine has just launched its largest model ever produced, the Tempest 50. This 15-metre monster has many distinctive features, starting with its 4 XTO outboards of 425 hp each or its two separate cabins for greater privacy.

A great RIB for a new clientele

The market for maxis ribs is growing from year to year. On the pontoons of Cannes 2018, the trend was towards the big - very big even - and the maxi motorized. And at that game, the Tempest 50 won all the votes: 15 m long and 1700 HP "under the hood" ?!

This maxi Rib presented by Yamaha Marine was developed in collaboration with the Italian shipyard Capelli and is the largest model ever launched by the yard. A decision explained to us by Guillaume Verbrugghe, Head of the Marine Department at Yamaha:

"There is both a demand for large semi-rigid vehicles with customers moving up the range from a 900 to a 1000 and then from a 38 to 44, etc. We are therefore addressing the owners of Tempest 44 who want an even bigger model, but also a new clientele.

Owners of large boats and superyachts, who are looking for a boat they can sail alone. They need autonomy and power and have this to offer them. Finally, there is an evolution of the engine in terms of power, which allows us to offer large boats capable of receiving these large outboards.

Clearly, the 10 m semi-rigid riders have the wind in poupe?! "

A large unit capable of receiving 1700 CH

It was therefore upon learning that Yamaha was developing large engines that Capelli designed a boat capable of receiving 4 V8s of 425 hp, giving it a top speed of over 50 knots. Impressive when you consider the weight of the empty boat, 9,000 kg.

The Tempest 50 is built on a brand new sporty hull with a deep V, allowing it to reach 35 knots in less than 11 seconds. At cruising speed, we'll be satisfied with 25 knots.

A distinctive bridge layout

The Tempest 50 is also distinguished by its bridge layout. Certainly, we find the very large sunbathing, classic on a tire of this size: at the rear - covering a very large trunk - and at the front, over the entire deck area.

In the cockpit, behind the sunbathing area, there is a large dining area with a U-shaped bench and another facing bench. It is here that the Tempest 50 stands out with a first central console - with side entrances - which houses an equipped kitchen (fridge, stove and sink) as well as a convertible saloon for 2 people. This space allows guests to be accommodated separately from the owner's space.

Then follows the spacious cockpit, with three bolster seats, all well protected by a windshield. And in this second console is the owner's cabin with double bed and bathroom with separate shower.

Reserved for an exclusive clientele

Despite its high price - about 750,000 euros - the Tempest 50 should be able to find its audience through superyacht owners, in search of a more "simple" boat. Its separate cabins also provide the privacy that this type of clientele can expect, just as its four large outboards with a total of 1700 horsepower meet the desired speed and power requirements.
