Naval Architecture remains the reference for architects who design boats. First published over 20 years ago, this book was written by 2 architects: Dominique Paulet and Dominique Presles. A second edition was refreshed and published in 2007. In total, more than 10,000 copies of this book have been sold.
Following the death of Dominique Paulet and the retirement of Dominique Presles, it was Frédéric Neuman (also an architect) who was in charge of updating the new edition which has just been published by Dunod.
Indeed, a strong demand existed before this reference book unfortunately out of print. However, this book is primarily intended for construction professionals (architects, design offices, etc.), but also for students and teachers. Finally, the enlightened amateurs (a little math...) will also be able to adopt and appreciate the didactic, but rigorous approach.
The first part of the book deals with the generalities of shipbuilding with a history and an explanation of the vocabulary. It is also the part most accessible to the neophytes by approaching the fundamental notions like hydrostatics and hydrodynamics.
The second part enters the hard of the subject with all the explanations for the project management, and the constitution of a complete file. It is precisely on these points that the book has been much updated. Updates covered the full description of the new computer tools, the use of the latest composite materials and the latest regulatory changes.
Real technical book, this new version has been careful that the photos and illustrations stick perfectly to the text (a reproach on the previous edition). A serious proofreading was also done to limit typos and inaccuracies.
