Rebounds and new record for Yvan Bourgnon

Mathis and Yvan Bourgnon

After the Mediterranean record, which Yvan Bourgnon and his son Mathis missed by a few seconds, this time the navigator will attempt the Channel Crossing record on the official Cowes-Dinard course. They will be on stand-by from August 1st for a period of 45 days, in order to have an adequate weather window.

Mediterranean record

On July 9, 2018, Yvan Bourgnon and his son Mathis tried to beat the Mediterranean Record on their Nacra F20. Arriving in Carthage (Tunisia) on July 11 at 9:31 a.m., they officialized a record time of 01 Day 18 Hours 58 Minutes 17 Seconds. With only 2 seconds better than the time held by the father and son Malingri (1 day 18 h 58 min and 19 seconds established in August 2017), the WSSRC (which certifies the nautical records) invalidated performance arguing that it took at least 60 seconds to validate a record.

Developments

In a statement issued on Thursday 26 July, it finally appears that the WSSRC has reversed its decision "After several contradictory results, the new GPS data received recently from the tracker indicated that the final time by Yvan and Mathis was stopped at 01 d 18 h 56 min 14 s, i.e. 02 minutes and 05 seconds less than the previous record

Father and son set a new reference time on the Mediterranean Record. There is therefore no question of trying the challenge again next August.
