Seatronic launches a range of lithium batteries

By imagining a lithium battery specially adapted for navigation at sea, Seatronic responds to boaters who want to renew their battery pack without wanting to completely change the charging circuit. Discovery of the new Optimum batteries.

Developed by Seatronic, who carried out the specifications, the Optimum Power batteries are starting a revolution in the yachting market. These lithium batteries are designed to easily replace lead batteries. They do not require any modification of the installation (no additional casing to be provided) and can be installed without any constraint.

A case that looks like a lead acid battery..

Indeed, the case is the same size as that of a lead battery, but twice as light! This quick changeover is possible because these batteries have a BMS built into the battery (this is the electronic battery management system).

With the integrated BMS, replacing a lead battery with this lithium model is not a constraint. No need to plan to replace the charging system (charger or alternator), the on-board electronics take care of everything.

The Optimum are utility batteries suitable for all applications requiring an energy storage solution. But they can also be used as temporary starter batteries.

Batteries designed for the boat

The particularity of the Optimum is in the configuration of its electronic board. Indeed, the specific constraints linked to the use at sea (fast recharging from the alternator, fast discharge for the use of a converter ...) have been taken into account from the design stage of these batteries.

Compared to conventional batteries, they have the following advantages:

  • 4000 cycles of 100% discharge
  • very high recharging intensity: 100% of the minimum nominal capacity, therefore very fast recharging (= less than one motor hour)
  • the batteries can be connected in parallel and in series
  • 100% discharge without voltage drop and without risk of damage
  • twice as light as conventional batteries for the same capacity
  • 3 year warranty

Solid construction

Optimum lithium batteries are designed around high quality LiFePO4 cylindrical cells that form the core of the 12V lithium battery. These highly uniform cells are then assembled in series and parallel to achieve the desired capacity and voltage.

A BMS (Battery Management System) inside the battery is designed to maximize battery performance throughout its life by balancing the cells and protecting them from possible overcharging and deep discharge.

The BMS is designed to fit all situations and allows these lithium batteries to be used as a transparent replacement for any application using lead batteries. This BMS is also designed so that the batteries can be safely used in parallel or in series.

The battery cases are IP66 (waterproof) and have the same dimensions as conventional lead batteries.
