Top start for the first Arctic Ocean crossing under sail

The La Voie du Pôle expedition - led by Sébastien Roubinet, Eric André and Vincent Colliard started this Tuesday, June 19 in Alaska. The three men want to be the first shippers to cross the Arctic Ocean under sail, as never before?

Sébastien Roubinet and his two acolytes - Éric André and Vincent Colliard - set off this Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. on the Sagavanirktok River, a river from Alaska to the United States. This departure marks the beginning of their 3-month sailing adventure in the North Pole. On their sailboat specially developed by Sébastien for this adventure - a hybrid catamaran/ice tank prototype capable of sailing on water like ice - they will reach Spitsbergen from Alaska. A 3,000 km (1,750 mile) course without assistance and without engine, using only sail and human power.

Babouch'ty - Sebastian's first proto was called Babouche - was loaded for the occasion with 200 kg of food and equipment, ready to battle in this ocean of ice. In fact, it is the last ocean that has never been crossed under sail.

A map with a plotter will allow to follow the three men in their adventure in the heart of the Arctic Ocean. The 3rd for Sébastien, who had already tried it in 2011 and 2013, but had to stop due to the weather and technical breakdowns.
