Films de mer, when history inspires directors

The sea inspires a lot the directors and the great stories that happened there as well. The races, the great sailors or the dramas of the sea federate the people who feel touched by these moments of sea. Titanic - January 1998 - 3:14 am

James Cameron's film, which launched Leo Dicaprio's career and features the beautiful Kate Winslet, is cult... It is inspired by a true story - the sinking of the Titanic four days after her departure from Southampton on April 10, 1912 - and features a love story between a poor artist and a middle-class woman.

Tabarly - June 2008 - 1 h 30

The film about the great navigator was sponsored by the association of the same name and evokes the sailor's career and his extreme sensitivity. This documentary is based on a unique documentation of radio and audiovisual archives, French and foreign, professional and amateur, mostly unpublished.

Solo - November 2013 - 1 h 41

Yann Kermadec - François Cluzet - saw his dream come true when he replaced his friend Franck Drevil at the start of the Vendée Globe, the solo round the world sailing race. Inhabited by a fierce will to win, while he is in the middle of a race, the discovery aboard a young passenger will call everything into question.

L'Odyssée - October 2016 - 2 h 03

1948. Jacques-Yves Cousteau, his wife and two sons live in paradise, in a pretty house overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. But Cousteau dreams only of adventure. Thanks to his invention, an underwater breathing suit, he discovered a New World. From now on, he wants to explore this world. And for that, he's willing to sacrifice everything.

My Return Day - March 2018 - 1:42 am

The film tells the story of Donal Crowhurst, an English businessman who decided to take part in the Golden Globe Race, the first solo sailing race in 1968. Overwhelmed by debt, he hopes to win first prize. But ill-prepared and not knowing much about it, he will find himself confronted with big difficulties and will indulge in big lies that will lead to his loss.
