Web series / Sailing Kalispera : Which route and what objectives for a world tour?

Mélanie, Lou and Lisa de Sailing Kalispera

If the idea of this family trip is first of all to have an incredible experience and to have fun, Arnaud and Mélanie wanted to bring an ecological dimension to their project. Accompanied by Melanie's daughters - Lisa 4 and Lou 7 - they wish to show them that the earth is fragile and that it is important to take care of it. As for their career path, it has been defined in relation to logistical constraints since Mélanie has obtained a one-year availability Answer with Arnaud.

There is an ecological dimension to your project, you talk a lot about nature, wildlife, etc. Is that something you care about?

We are quite sensitive to the environment, especially Melanie. We want to add this dimension to our project for girls already. To explain to them the damage that a plastic bag can do, for example. We want to make them aware that this is real, by visiting an association for turtles, for example. They will also be able to share it with their class. We also hope to be able to show it in our videos, not a masterful report, but to pass on messages from time to time. Show that sometimes the postcard can be distorted. If it can help to arouse curiosity, for us it is important.

We also rely a lot on the girls' point of view, on their desires. We become children's limits again and we learn to be amazed again. It's something we lose every day.

What is your background? You have few stops and a lot of navigation..

It is a classic course, not too complicated, which also takes into account the season. It had to be good timing because we don't have much time. We tried to maximize the ratio of navigation time and shore time. Mélanie is only one year old and will stop in Madagascar. I will continue for about 6 months to sail up the boat via Cap Espérance to Le Lavandou.

We're going to have a lot of family and friends joining us along the way. Mélanie will also join me from time to time over the last 6 months, notably in Namibia, or Cape Verde. We are in the process of establishing a schedule with everyone's whereabouts..

It is true that compared to families who have time, we are forced to organize ourselves differently. But it's better than nothing. It is better to eat a little sail and leave than not at all... And then our particularity once again is that we had to take into account the father of the girls when planning our trip.

Who makes your videos and how do you plan to publish them?

I'm the one who makes them happen. I am used to them because of my job, and I take a lot of pleasure in doing them. Maybe that's why it gives a good impression. I also watch a lot of videos on YouTube and I try not to reproduce the little defects I can see. I will acquire an image stabilizer to further improve the quality of the videos. The idea is to share this with as many people as possible.

We impose videos on ourselves without imposing them too much. We publish at a rate of about 3 weeks. I think when we start sailing, I'll have more content. The idea is not to make video to make it...

The format must be kept short so as not to be annoying. The idea is not to get carried away, to do things with a little passion and that's what works. We really want honesty to relay also the difficult moments, when it will be tense. It won't always be the world of teddy bears. There are some great moments and some really hard ones, especially proximity. I would like to keep a small logbook, a kind of space for everyone to share their feelings.

We are just starting to relay our adventure and we already have 500 subscribers. I hallucinated because at first we did it for our family and friends. But we receive messages from all over France and even from Canada to encourage us or ask us for advice.

What will happen in the next few weeks before the big start?

At Le Lavandou, berths are extremely expensive. July is an exorbitant month: 1,700 euros. As a result, we'll be living on board all July at anchor. It will allow us to finish the final adjustments, get our bearings and completely refuel the boat. We're also going to dock. The weather is fine, there is not too much bad wind.
