"For 40 years, we've been "taking" our customers to the water's edge. We wanted to be even closer to the ocean, and therefore... in the water!" explains Dominique Bourçois, founder of the company and creator of swimboarding.
Based on his own experience, the head of the company decides to create the Swimboard. Not being a good swimmer can slow down swimming, but with a board you can swim farther and longer. Thus the prototype was born in 2017 before only the first models came out in April 2018.
This swimming board is made of composite (within the company that designs, produces and markets its products) and weighs less than 10 kilos. A light weight that counterbalances its length - 3 m - which will require a car gallery for transport. But it is precisely because of its elongated size that the company wanted to distinguish it from other swimming boards, to promote safety, as Sébastien from Plasmor explains.
"The principle of the swimming board already exists, but we wanted something different, longer to gain safety. This way we can swim longer and even sit on it to rest. The approach to Swimboarding is different, we want to reach a much wider audience and not necessarily professional swimmers." adds Sebastien.
It's easy to set up, as only a wetsuit and a pair of fins are needed to venture into the water. Thus equipped, all you have to do is lie down on the board, the contours of which frame the body. The torso then rests on the board and the legs are in the water, propelling the machine. Handles are used to hold on, but you can also use your arms to row. The Swimboard is currently only available in one length (3 m), but it's a family board Anyone can use it, even children. It can become a playground equipment on the beach, it can be used very widely. And since you only have the lower part of the body underwater, you can also use it longer in the season." details Sebastian.
The Swimboard is equipped with a waterproof trunk to carry your phone, water bottle or car keys. It is also possible to add other supports such as a GPS or camera support. The board is available in several colours and sold directly by Plasmor in Vannes. And as with all its products, it is possible to try it on request.
