The descent from Gibraltar to the Canary Islands was not at all restful for Hugo on his Écume de Mer Ann Alé. Indeed, as he was initially heading for Madeira, a violent depression forced him to continue towards the Canaries, or to lengthen his course. It was therefore 8 days later that he managed to make landfall.
During this trip, he encountered very heavy seas and winds in excess of 35 knots. These conditions shook the sailor and damaged his equipment. Two sneaky waves came aboard, filling the cabin with more than 100 litres of water and tearing off the hood as they passed. Difficult conditions that show - if proof were needed - that the "Écume de Mer" is a really good seafaring boat and perfectly adapted to these deep-sea navigations.
