Special Edition / Largowind, the connected anchor

By installing a box that measures the tension on the anchor, Connected Rope from Largowind informs the boater if his anchor slips. A good solution to avoid losing his boat, but also to avoid damaging the seabed by ploughing it with his anchor.

How can Connected Object Technology be used to help sailors? This is the question Mathilde Argaud asked herself with friends. Result: the connected anchorage.

A box connected to the anchor

Connected Rope is a piece that hooks between the anchor chain and the boat. A sort of triangular tool in the shape of a Manta ray. Measuring tensions and vibrations, the box is able to analyse the boat's behaviour at anchor. So, if the box registers a very high tension followed by vibrations, it means that the anchor has stalled. This situation triggers an alarm.

On board or ashore

If the crew is on board, they can collect the alert on their mobile phone which will be connected to the box via Bluetooth. The mobile phone will start ringing to indicate that the boat is skidding. The crew can then intervene.

If the crew is ashore, in a restaurant for example, then the boat must be equipped with a relay box which will be connected to the Connected Rope in Bluetooth and which will be able to send a message to the users ashore (SMS, e-mail...).

For all pleasure boats

The Connected Rope, developed and built in France, is a water resistant (IP67) and shock resistant case. It is autonomous, powered by its own battery. The size of the force transducer limits it today to units from 6 to 20 m, but a model for larger boats is in the planning stage.
