Up until now, the Ultim' - these giant trimarans reserved for just a few skippers - were brought together under the aegis of the Collectif Ultim'. Since 29th January 2018, the Board of Directors of the French Sailing Federation has come out in favour of the creation of the Ultim 32/23 Class, a class open to all owners whose boats meet the rules.
The creation of the 32/23 Ultim Class follows the Extraordinary General Assembly of the association Loi 1901 Collectif Ultim which met on January 8, 2018 in order to vote on the modification of its statutes and internal regulations allowing the transformation of a collective into a class under the aegis of the French Sailing Federation.
"After the first 4 years under the aegis of the Ultim Collective, which enabled us, in particular, to develop an architectural framework and a first programme of races up to the Round the World Tour at the end of 2019, it seemed useful and relevant to switch to a Class affiliated to the French Sailing Federation. On the one hand, because it was important to make our approach even more official. On the other hand, because at the international level, towards which we will be moving, also, progressively, a Class recognised by the national and international federal authorities was more easily understandable than a Shipowners' Collective, however original it may have been, and which enabled us to make substantial progress on a substantial number of dossiers. Finally, the spirit of the Collective will remain. It was important for us to see it continue, as the collaborative spirit was not only a pleasure to live with on a daily basis but, above all, a guarantee of efficiency. His office has been restored to its original state. We welcome Samuel Tual (President of Actual Groupe) who will be the Secretary General of the Class and Emmanuel Bachellerie who will continue to serve with us this time as General Delegate" explains Patricia Brochard, President of the 32/23 Ultim Class.
As a reminder, the Collectif Ultim brings together Actual (which sank during the Round the World Record upside down), Banque Populaire, Macif and Sodebo Voile.
The class desk is composed of :

- Jean-Bernard Le Boucher, Vice-Chairman (Director of Marine Activities of the Macif Group),
- Alain Giron, Treasurer (Manager of SARL Bateau Banque Populaire),
- Samuel Tual, Secretary General (Chairman of the Management Board of the Actual Group),
- Emmanuel Bachellerie, coordinator of the Ultim Collective until then, is appointed General Delegate of the Ultim Class 32/23.
Class rules
Here are the rules of the Ultim 32/23 class:
1 - Non-removable rules (length, width, clearance at sea, air draught...)
2 - Rules that can be modified every 4 years (supervisory committee, group of experts, engine power, anchorages, adjustment of the mobile hull appendages, skipper's qualification method...)
3 - Rules that can be changed each year (those that are not part of Rules 1 and 2).
