Leisure 28: "the perfect dayboat for a comfortable day on the water"

Rand Boat is a Danish dayboat shipyard that has made a name for itself with its Picnic Boat, a simple open hull that can accommodate 10 people on board to spend a good time on the water around a large table or on the sunbathing area aft. Now, the shipyard offers a more accomplished model with a cabin and toilets for a longer time at sea: the Leisure 28. A boat as simple as ever, but rather well finished and requiring a small engine.

"It's a perfect dayboat. What the perfect dayboat should be" explains us Oscar Kai Rand, Head of Sales and Marketing. The Rand Leisure 28 is an 8.44 m sundeck - the largest model in the range - designed both for sailing at sea (the Picnic Boat was particularly suitable for inland navigation) and on lakes. At anchor, it becomes a small leisure boat with a large sun deck for 3 people at the stern (whose backrest reclines like a deckchair), a large saloon for dining with an optional table that folds out and opposite it a galley with fridge and sink... On board there is plenty of storage space, well distributed under the benches.

"We wanted to create the largest possible cockpit on this size of unit. The Leisure 28 is our vision of luxury for a day on the water. It's a pure, clean and simple boat where everything is in its place. We've taken out all the extras and kept all the basic equipment as standard to spend a relaxing time on the water" says Oascar Kai Rand.

To increase the comfort on board and extend the boat's programme, the Danish shipyard has equipped its dayboat with a small cabin and toilet. The model exhibited at Boot Dusseldorf was still at the prototyping stage and some modifications should be made: width of the entrance in the cabin, height under the head by reducing the thickness of the cushions...).

The starboard helm station is simple and pleasant with an easily accessible throttle and a bench seat for two people, which can be raised to drive upright. The windshield is high and should provide good wind protection and visibility. The central opening, as on bowriders, provides access to the foredeck, which can be used for additional sunbathing. In order to free up space in the cockpit, the cabin door with the steps is very far back and the passage on the foredeck very steep. You must first think about opening the glass before climbing over the bow. A bimini (optional) covers the entire cockpit, from the windscreen to the aft bench seat.

The Leisure 28 is available with several types of propulsion: electric, diesel or hybrid. A varied choice depending on the programme you want... For the Z-Drive engine (3L Diesel), you can choose between a range of 150 to 350 hp, knowing that with 150 hp, the boat reaches a speed of 30 knots! This performance can be explained by the weight of the boat (1,950 kg). "We choose to put forward a small motorization because that's the boat's program. It's more efficient. The electric motor doesn't allow you to go fast, but it will be enough, for example, to make the link between Corsica and France."

The yard was also to present the Play 24 (a 7.40 m walk-around) and the Sport 26 (a 7.99 m bowrider) at Boot Dusseldorf, but the models were not yet ready. So we will have to wait another 2 months to discover these new boats... Rand Boat keeps diversifying its offer and should propose a new model even bigger!
